More Access for Dads at Stapleford Sure Start
17/07/2015 by toni.morley
We recently received feedback from a mother who attends groups and courses at Stapleford Children's Centre.
The groups have helped and supported her as a first time mum and given her the opportunity to meet with other mums, which to her has been invaluable.
"The guidance I have received has been second to none. The sure start team have been so supportive and have really helped me with finding help through one of the toughest times of my life, becoming a single parent to my baby boy; I can't thank them enough".
She felt the only thing missing from the opportunities provided were options for dads to attend. "Dads often work and so their only available time is at weekends".
As a result of this feedback, progress has been made in terms of meeting the needs of dads within the area, to provide them with support and to manage parenting issues more effectively.
The 123 Magic Course focuses on cognitive therapy and behaviour management and teaches strategies aimed at changing behaviours. The course was successfully attended by dads on a Saturday morning session recently.
There is a further course planned on Saturday 12th September 2015 10am - 12pm at Stapleford Children's Centre following the successful first session.
