Helping with physical needs in older people's services
22/02/2016 by Amy Gaskin-Williams

A recent comment on the Service User and Carer Experience (SUCE) survey identified an issue with older carers struggling with physical needs at home, such as lifting their loved one. The comment was posted from a patient of Newark and Sherwood community mental health team (CMHT).
The team has now identifed a physical health lead to ensure this issue, and related issues, are considered and resolved. All staff are trained in manual handling (and this is updated regularly) so are able to offer advice and help.
The team also have an Occupational Therapist and access to the falls team for referrals if issues such as mobility, lifting etc. arise.
